Our subconscious is the entire infrastructure of neural networks which we have created since birth. With each new network, our perceptions and behaviors are affected. Some of the deepest and most influential networks in our minds are developed out of tragedy or traumatic events.

Think about where you were when something horribly tragic happened in your life. At that moment, the magnitude of the event mixed with the feelings you felt and the consequences that most likely followed were etched into your subconscious forever. It can be played back clearly in the theater of your mind whenever prompted. It was the strong feelings you had at that time which created such powerful memories. Compound that to the thoughts you most likely meditated on for days, weeks, months or even years after the tragedy and you have created significant changes in your mindsets, sometimes even altering your core values.

In the same way, if we want to create positive thoughts, images and beliefs about any one thing, we must first alter our subconscious mind.

For years, athletes have trained using this concept. They are asked to visualize themselves competing in the sport of their choice in their minds eye only. They are told to engage emotions, thoughts, feelings and other senses in this exercise. This includes the sights, sounds, smells, feelings and even the outcome they desire while visualizing.

When hooked up to devices, their vital signs as well as their nerves and muscles are monitored during this exercise. Amazingly, their vitals and even the fibers of muscles react as if they were actually doing the sport itself. Study after study has proven that the performance of an athlete improves vastly and consistently with this type of visualization.

Another example is to consider how your body reacts when you watch a horror movie or a love story. Your heart rate speeds up, you may sweat or tense up, you may even cry. All because of your thoughts aligning with what is played on the screen. This type of scientific study has concluded that the subconscious mind does not know the difference between an imagined event and an actual event.

Therefore, utilizing this knowledge as you pursue new habits and develop your success routine can only help. Realize that you were designed to succeed, but only if you will tap into the resources you were born with.

  • Empower Others Frequently – Give, Pay it Forward, Show Kindness

When it comes to refining our “inner life” to match our vision and push us towards our desired goals, nothing I can share with you is more important than your words, thoughts and inner dialogue.

A regular examination of our influences, both inner and outer will not only reveal some root causes of stress in our lives but it can help us to prioritize what we allow ourselves to become involved in and help us to regain control in all areas. This is something we should be doing periodically, especially if we are noticing some “hiccups” in our progress.

Success Routine Tip 3: Just as your body needs healthy nutritious meals each day to maintain optimum performance, your mind requires the same. As you set up your new routine, try not to look at the changes as changes. Instead, view your new “mind diet” as a necessary component to the end result.

Your mind will under-perform when it is offered a consistent diet of “junk food” such as TV, media, gossip, negative words, etc. just as your body will under-perform by feeding on junk food.
